The Westmoor Department of Health has published a draft rule that would cut the license renewal window for non-medical home care agencies from 90 days to 60. The department says the change will help it clear a backlog of late filings that built up over the past two years.
What the draft rule changes
- Renewal applications must arrive 60 days before the license expires.
- Late filers pay a flat $250 fee instead of a daily penalty.
- Agencies can upload staff training records online rather than mailing copies.
What owners should do now
The comment period runs for 30 days. Owners who renew in the first quarter of next year are the most exposed, because their filing date would move up by a full month.
"Most of our members file early already. The ones who don't are usually small agencies with one office manager doing everything," said Dana Pruitt, director of the fictional Westmoor Home Care Alliance.
Agencies should check their renewal date this week and put the new deadline on the office calendar now, even before the rule is final.
